So, i finally braze myself and took a plunge in the
fansubbing world. It took some serious inner pep talk to convinced myself to do
it. The thing is, i have little confidence in my English, and my Japanese is
still quite limited.
The main reason why i decided to do this is because there
are only a handful of j-drama subber, which resulting in so many j-dramas left
unsubbed.
I chose Tokyo Joshi Zukan as my first drama project
because the duration of each episode is quite short, about 30 minutes. This drama
is not listed on dramawiki or asiandrama, the only information available is
from this j-drama blog.
I want to apologize in advance for any grammar and/or
translation errors. Corrections and suggestions are welcomed.
Whenever i need my fix of fluffy romance, K-Dramas are my
drug. Even with the extensive use of repetitive tropes (piggyback, drunk
confession, accidental kiss, etc.), it would still make me giddy and swoon. On the
other hand, if i’m in the mood for some straight up work/office drama, Japan is
where i go. Other than the abundant doctors, police officers and private
detectives, J-Drama offers a wide variety of professions. Listed bellow are
some dramas that feature less common work field:
·Aesthetic surgeon:
Cleopatra no Onnatachi (2012)
·Airforce Public
Relation Officers: Soratobu Kouhoushitsu (2013) ๐
·Air traffic
controllers: Tokyo Control (2011); Tokyo Airport (2012)
·Antiquarian bookshop
owner: Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou (2013)
To be honest, psychological thriller dramas aren’t my cup
of tea. Too heavy and gloomy, my stress level would rise. I really don’t
remember why i decided to watch White Christmas in the first place, knowing
that it’s a psychological drama. Anyhow, i ended up watching the eight-episodes
series, and i did not regret one bit. My stress level went up afterwards but it
was worth it. White Christmas is a well-written, well-directed drama, with
stunning cinematography and killer soundtrack.
It tells the story of seven
students of an elite boarding school located in somemountain, who were taken as hostages by a
serial killer, and that killer decided to play a psychological game with them.
This drama introduced me to Kim Woo Bin, and personally i think this was his
best performance so far. The red-haired Mad Mireu was definitely my favorite
character in this drama.
Oh, and let’s not forget K-Drama perpetual scene stealer,
Lee El.
After finishing the drama, i became obsessed with the
soundtrack. Couldn't find an official OST album, so i had
to compile the songs myself, which is not an easy task considering lots of the song
used are instrumentals. I’ve spent days listening to a whole bunch of post-rock
tracks, trying to figure out if it’s the right one. I did manage to recognize
several songs, however there are still several others that remain unknown.
So here’s the list of songs used in White Christmas:
1.Ninaian – White
Monster (Opening Theme)
2.The Pixies –
Debaser
3.Ninaian – Blood In
Blood Out
4.Low – Just Like
Christmas
5.DJ Shadow – Giving
Up The Ghost
6.AC/DC – Back in
black
7.Suede – Beautiful
Ones
8.DJ Krush – Song 2
9.Big Baby Driver –
Spring I Love You Best
10.Ninaian – Clowns
And The Crown
11.DJ Shadow – Mongrel
Meets His Maker
12.Andreas Scholl –
Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus RV608 [Cum Dederit Dilectis suis somunm (Largo)]
